US aviator who helped form Israeli Air Force dies at 94

Mitchell Flint, an American aviator who helped form the Israeli Air Force in 1948 and served in Israel’s first fighter squadron has died. He was 94.

Flint, a former US Navy fighter pilot, died Saturday in Los Angeles of pure causes, stated his son, Michael Flint.

Flint was one of many founding members of “Machal,” a gaggle of non-Israelis who fought within the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. He was one of many unique members of the Israeli Air Force’s first fighter squadron and helped practice Israel’s first army pilots, his son stated.

Flint and different members of the Machal had flown in German planes that have been captured throughout World War II and lined the Nazi insignia with Stars of David. He flew in rebuilt Messerschmitts, Germany’s foremost fighter airplane throughout World War II, in addition to Mustangs and Spitfires.

When he returned to the United States, Flint moved to Los Angeles and have become a lawyer. He continued flying till final 12 months, his son stated.

“He was a humble man who did what he did and by no means appeared for glory,” Michael Flint stated of his father. “He was happy with what he did till the very finish.”
