A joint investigative staff from the UK and India say they’ve uncovered an “worldwide fraud” the place dried monitor lizard penises are being handed off as tantric plant roots.

The root, hatha jodhi, is believed to deliver good luck and happiness as it resembles two fingers joined in prayer.

A press release from World Animal Protection stated Indian wildlife authorities had performed raids in a number of states and seized samples.

The faux “roots” are being sold online.

Customers largely appear to be the Asian diaspora within the UK, different elements of Europe and the US, the assertion stated.

A latest raid within the japanese Indian state of Orissa noticed the seizure of dried hemipenis from Bengal and Yellow Monitor lizards from a home within the metropolis of Bhubaneswar, the assertion added.

An Indian member of the investigating staff stated the unlawful commerce was of main concern for the continued survival of the lizard species concerned, as each Bengal and Yellow Monitor lizards are protected below Indian and worldwide regulation.
